CPP Program:
The City Produce Project program has packaged fresh, locally grown vegetables produced by the University of Illinois Extension program and private local farmers. By participating in the local nutrition education program, you will learn how to enjoy and adapt them to your daily diet.
The City Produce project is designed to impact the growing problem of poor eating habits, obesity and diabetes in low income communities. It was conceived through a collaboration of research hospitals, health clinics, academics and agriculture industry representatives. Monsanto and the Illinois Corn Marketing Board are providing support for the project.
The vegetables are grown at private farms and at the University of Illinois Extension sites located in St. Charles, the Chicago Agriculture High School on the city's south side and land adjacent to the Cook County Jail. The Greater Chicago Food Depository is collecting the harvest and distributing it to designated pantries.
